Painting beach scene
The first time I painted this scene was a few weeks ago, when my family and I were biking at Formby Beach. We stopped to take a break and have a picnic, and I of course had to pull out my art supplies.
The first attempt wasn’t perfect, but I always find that repainting something that I initially did from life works very well.
I begin with light washes, letting the colours move naturally on the paper rather than controlling them too much. As the layers build, the shapes slowly start to form, nothing rushed, just allowing the painting to develop at its own pace.
You’ll see how I work with soft edges, colour shifts, and small adjustments rather than trying to get everything right at once. Although this is a timelapse, It’s a slow process, with moments of pausing, observing, and going back in gently.
This is very much how I approach watercolours now, not aiming for perfection, but staying with the process and letting it unfold.
I hope it inspires you to start painting.
with Love,
Inga
